Inauguration - Chapter Sixteen

Two days later President Watt sat on the examination table in Med-Lab while Doctor Franklin carried out the second physical examination on him in as many days. A rye smile appeared on Franklin’s face.
“In all of my years as a doctor I’ve never seen anything like it.” he said. “You absorbed enough energy to kill a thousand normal men, and yet I can find no trace of ill health whatsoever.”
“Many doctors have been baffled by my medical history.” said Watt. “Did I tell you about the time I pushed en entire space station through a wormhole?”

Inauguration - Chapter Fifteen

Magus stood at the junction of two corridors, wondering which way he should head next. If it were not for the sensors he would have been able to sort this out by now. Then a fall figure appeared before him.
“Ah, Magus. I knew you would be here. Do not worry about using your powers, you will need them to defend yourself. I intend to kill you and to add your powers to my own.” smiled Alen.
“Easier said than done Alen. You want to match the skills of four centuries against two millennia?”
The two began to circle each other warily. Arcane energy began to form around their hands. Alen raised his hands and struck the first blow, sending Magus reeling. Now he could use his powers again there was not the effect Alen had hoped for. The older wizard turned to him with a smile.

Inauguration - Chapter Fourteen

The door to Garibaldi’s office opened, and two heads peered around the door, looking one way and they the other. Slowly they then stepped out into the corridor.
“Well this is it.” said Watt. “You know the plan. You go through the corridors and I’ll use my powers to go through the walls.”
“I only hope this plan works.” said Magus.
“It will. And remember, no matter what happens one of us must disable the reactor.”
Watt extended his hand, and Magus grasped it.
    “Good luck Ambassador.”
    “Likewise Mr. President.”
And with that Magus and Watt went in separate directions.

Inauguration - Chapter Thirteen

Watt stood at the small computer station in the corridor busily trying to operate it. After a few seconds he punched the wall.
    “Damn!” he cursed.
Magus, who was keeping an eye on the corridors, turned round to face Watt.
    “What’s wrong?” he asked.
“I can’t access the main computer from this station. I need to get to a bigger terminal.”
Watt switched the terminal off and began thinking.
“As far as I can see there are two possibilities.” he said. “One of them is the Operations room. That, of course, is out of the question.”
Watt began to rub his chin. A few seconds later he suddenly snapped his fingers.

Inauguration - Chapter Twelve

Teddy sat, his delicate black nose tilted upwards, scenting the air. Jimmy and Tabby sat before him, washing themselves.
“Any sign of them?” asked Jimmy languidly.
    Teddy nodded.
“They appear to be climbing one of the Jefferies tubes.”
“What do we do now?” asked Tabby.
“Have you seen Toby?” asked the Collie.
“I saw him heading towards the detention wing. I called but he took no notice.”
“Captain Watt has the same problem with him. I dare say he knows what he’s doing. There may well be food involved.”
The dog looked down at his smaller companions.
“We find which tube and wait there. If you are approached by the enemy play the part of a dumb animal.”

Inauguration - Chapter Eleven

Watt sat in one of the chairs in the debating chamber, his hands and feet securely bound by chains of cavourite. Magus, too, was chained, by the great chain Angainor, forged by the Valar to restrain Melkor Morgoth during his three ages of captivity. The chain prevented Magus from using his powers.
“Look at you Magus, you foolish old man. I wonder how many times you had the opportunity to do what I am now doing and passed it by.”
Magus gave Alen the Seer a long hard look.
“We made a mistake when we chose you Alen. Power can corrupt, and it has corrupted you.”

Inauguration - Chapter Ten

Ivanova was helpless. All she could do was watch as the two strange unknown vessels neared the station. Queeg stood beside her, his phaser still aimed at her. He, too, watched for a few seconds before he activated his communicator.
“Queeg to attack squads. Operation has begun. Proceed with stage two.”
In the chamber Watt and Leacock were about to step down from the podium when the door suddenly burst open. Suddenly all of the officers from the Yorktown and the Aswan that were in the chamber sprang to their feet, and Captain Solkun fired his phaser into the air. No one had any idea what was going on as thirty more men from the Yorktown suddenly ran in holding phaser rifles. Magus then got to his feet. He now knew why he was feeling uneasy. He raised his hand and was about to fire a bolt of mystical energy at Solkun when a blast hit him. Magus fell to the ground and saw Alen the Seer standing over him. Then there was a loud scream as someone burst into the chamber. The screen was because the ‘man’ seemed to be some sort of zombie, and he was brandishing some sort of weapon. Panic ensued, and from his point on the podium Watt took to the air and flew towards the zombie-like creature. The creature held the weapon up, pointed it at Watt, and fired. A beam of red energy emanated from the weapon and struck Watt. He fell to the floor like a dead bird that had just been shot out of the sky. Amid all of the chaos and phaser fire Picard had managed to make his way to Captain Watt.

Inauguration - Chapter Nine

The time for the inauguration drew near. The chamber was beginning to fill up with the V.I.P. guests dressed in their ambassadorial robes and dress uniforms. IN his quarters Watt was making his final preparations when the door buzzer sounded.
    “Come in.” called Watt.
The door opened and Thomas Leacock entered. Leacock was fully dressed in his robes. He smiled when he saw Watt.
“Aren’t you ready yet?” he asked.
“We have plenty of time left Tom.” said Watt.
“Not that much. They’re beginning to gather in the chamber. Ben Adams is beginning to look a trifle impatient.”
Watt completed the final adjustments to his clothing and then looked at himself in the mirror. He paused for a few moments.
“I remember when I first met you.” said Watt. “Magus introduced you to me as his adopted son. The thing that annoyed me was when you called me Sir all the time.”
“I was merely being polite James.”
    Watt turned towards Leacock.
“A hell of a lot has happened since then.” he said. “Come on. Let’s get going. We’ve got a Federation to start running here!”

Inauguration - Chapter Eight

It was indeed a busy day on Babylon 5. Everyone was rushing about preparing for the evening’s events. In all of this hustle and bustle Narn Ambassador G’Kar still found time to take a stroll around the station. It was during this stroll that G’Kar found someone else who was not caught up in the chaos of the moment, the commanding officer of the Romulan ship, Tomalok. He saw Tomalok looking at some jewellery.
“I hope none of that is for you Commander.” said G’Kar.
Tomalok turned around to see the ambassador behind him. He smiled.
“Ambassador, I did not know it was you. I am merely looking for some gifts to take home to my family. A Romulan has never been on Babylon 5 before. A gift brought from one of it’s ships may become priceless in a few years.”

Inauguration - Chapter Seven

Tarak Queeg walked down the corridors of the guest area, looking for the quarters that had been assigned to the Eldars. It didn’t take him long to find it. When he did he pressed the panel on the side of the door. A few seconds later a voice from the inside called him in. The door opened and Queeg saw that the room was dimly lighted. It took a few seconds for his eyes to adjust to the dimness. Walking further into the room he soon saw Lanriel Nightland sitting in one of the chairs.
“Come forward Captain Queeg.” he beckoned. “Come, sit with me.”
Queeg sat on the chair opposite Nightland.
“All goes well my lord.” he said. “The rendezvous with our allies went well. We agreed upon their time of arrival.”
“I hope Boglob doesn’t blow it.” said Nightland. “He can be very impatient at times.”
“And what of the weapon?” asked Queeg.
Nightland turned to his side and motioned. A few seconds later the mysterious Mordin came out of the shadows. He was still wearing his black robes.

Inauguration - Chapter Six

It was nearing the early hours of the following morning, and the new President had spoken to nearly everyone at the reception. He had shown himself to be a capable speaker, and someone who was able to put his views across. But as the night went on Watt began to feel tired. Even immortals needed their rest. As it neared midnight the visiting dignitaries began to slowly return to their quarters. Watt sat on the podium with Duncan McCloud.
“It’s been a long night.” Watt yawned.
“Perhaps it’s time you got to bed.” said McCloud. “You’ve got a big day ahead of your tomorrow…I mean this evening.”
    “Perhaps you’re right Duncan.”
Then the younger Watt approached the podium.
“Jim!” said Watt. “How are you? I’m sorry I couldn’t speak to you, but you know how it is.”
“I understand.” said Captain Watt. “I just wanted to say goodnight before I return to the Valkyrie. Have you seen Magus anywhere?”
The elder Watt pointed to a corner of the hall where sat Magus and Mollari, laughing and joking with each other.
“It might be a good idea to leave them to it.” said Watt. “They haven’t seen each other in a while.”
“You’re probably right.” said Captain Watt. “I’ll see you in the morning.”

Inauguration - Chapter Five

Watt stood in his quarters, in full ambassadorial robes, in front of his mirror. He stood looking at himself, reflecting on all that he had done in his long life, and all that he had accomplished. As he did this Duncan McCloud entered. McCloud was in his dress uniform, and he stood at the doorway and watched Watt.
“Nearly everyone is at the reception.” said McCloud. “Well, everyone apart from us that is.”
    Watt did not answer.
    “Is everything alright?” asked McCloud.
“Sure.” replied Watt. “Everything’s just fine.”
Watt turned around to face McCloud.
“Do you remember when we first met?” he asked.
“Like it was yesterday.” said McCloud. “Magus had just been to see me after Tessa’s funeral, asking for my help in protecting the acolytes. It was then that he took me to meet you and your friends.”
“Yes, and you still have the ponytail and unshaven look.” said Watt. “Not bad for the commander-in-chief. Come on, let’s get this over with.”

Inauguration - Chapter Four

The time of the reception had arrived. The debating chamber on Babylon 5 had been turned into a sort of ballroom, and this was where the reception would be held. At first only a few of the visiting dignitaries arrived. They were each greeted by Sinclair and Ivanova. At first they were somewhat annoyed at the low turnout.
“You would have thought the chance of some free food would have had them showing up in their hundreds.” said Ivanova.
“It’s early.” said Sinclair. “I hope they turn up soon. It would give some of them the chance to talk in a way they haven’t before.”

Inauguration - Chapter Three

Magus walked along the corridors towards the presidential quarters, on his way to see his old friend. After a few minutes he reached the door and pressed the door buzzer. A voice from inside beckoned him in. When he entered he found that the room was in slight disarray. Clothes on hangars were to be found all around the room. Some of them were Starfleet uniforms from the days of the Constellation-class ships. Nearby was the uniform of a Starfleet admiral, and near that was a set of ambassadorial robes, but at the end of the room was a costume Magus had not seen for many years, nearly four hundred in fact. It dated back to the early 21st century, and was worn by Watt during his tenure in Anglo-Force. Magus stood looking at this uniform and began to re-live some old memories of his days in Anglo-Force. As he did this Watt entered dressed in more ambassador robes.

Inauguration - Chapter Two

The U.S.S. Valkyrie was four and a half hours away from Babylon 5. On board were several V.I.P.’ on their way to the inauguration. The nature of this mission allowed Captain Watt some free time, and he took this time to walk about his ship. One of his final stops was the bar on deck ten, the Gresley. When Watt entered he soon found where all the V.I.P.’s were. He stood in the doorway and looked around at the gathered dignitary. At one table sat two of Starfleet’s finest admirals, Nicholas Lethbridge-Stewart and Alberto Calevicchi. At another table sat two ambassadors, Benjamin Adams of Earth and Charles Dickens of the newcomer planet Tencton. When Adams saw Watt standing near the door he motioned him over. Watt approached their table.

Inauguration - Chapter One

Michael Garibaldi had a headache, and some would say that he was heading in the wrong direction if he wanted treatment. As he walked along the corridors of the massive Babylon 5 space station his mind was on his current huge task. So much on his task in fact that he almost bumped into several others as he walked along. Soon, however, he arrived at his destination, the office of Commander Jeffrey Sinclair, the commanding officer of the station. Garibaldi entered to find Sinclair deep in his work. It appeared that the security chief was not the only one snowed under. Sinclair glanced up as Garibaldi entered.
