Hold One's Beer!

An interesting article about the World Cup caught my eye the other day. It was about the Dutch royal family, and how they attended two games while they were in America on June 20th. They first went to the Netherlands’s 5-1 drubbing of Sweden in Houston, before they went over to Kansas City to watch Curacao take on Ecuador.

The reason for this was quite simple. Firstly, they were supporting the Netherlands, for obvious reasons, and then they supported Curacao because the small island nation had been a part of the Netherlands Antilles until that particular group of countries was dissolved in 2010, and they are also part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. They seemed quite proud that they were able to show their support for two different countries in the same tournament.

But upon reading this I wondered if King Charles had read the same article, and if had, did he have one of those “hold one’s beer” moments.

Why? Because while it is nice that the Dutch royal family supports both teams under it’s regal jurisdiction, King Charles is actually the head of state of five different nations at the tournament, England, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, and one of the co-hosts, Canada.

Of course, if a certain Mr. Trump had his way he would have loved to have been Canada’s head of state. But as Mark Carney told him, Canada is not for sale. And neither is Greenland.

But at the end of the day does it matter how many teams a royal family supports at the World Cup? Probably not, but it is nice to know that Britain’s royal family can get one over on their close Dutch cousins.

Just like the English team did over the Dutch team at Euro 96.
