Two Sheds Mix Tape 22: Tribute to Martin Birch

There was a time in my life where whenever I picked up a record I saw Martin Birch’s name on it. He wasn’t a singer or some axe-wielding guitar hero, but he was someone who helped shape the sound of dozens of albums over the years.

As a sound engineer, and later as a producer, Martin worked with some of the giants of the music business. Martin shared studio time with the blues-heavy Fleetwood Mac, rockers such as Jeff Beck, the Faces and Silverhead, as well as hard rock and heavy metal icons Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Whitesnake, and most notably, Iron Maiden, and even though he retired in the 90’s the sounds that he helped produce continue to influence decades later.

Martin sadly passed away last month. The tributes came in from around the world for a man who was a giant of the music industry. The man may be gone, but his work and his influence on others will be heard for many a year. Here’s a few tracks he helped create over the years.

1) Turn Up The Night - Black Sabbath
2) Bad ‘N’ Ruin - The Faces
3) Vas Dis - Wishbone Ash
4) The Trooper - Iron Maiden
5) Black Night - Deep Purple
6) Burnin’ For You - Blue Oyster Cult
7) Don’t Break My Heart Again - Whitesnake
8) Dancer - Michael Schenker Group
9) Ace Supreme - Silverhead
10) Theme 1 - Cozy Powell
11) Oh Well Part 1 - Fleetwood Mac
12) Sarabande - Jon Lord
13) All Shook Up - Jeff Beck
14) Man On The Silver Mountain - Rainbow
