"I can't believe anyone has the power to reconstruct a wormhole!"
"I have seen Darkmagus' work firsthand, Mr. Crusher," said St. Germain.
"Now we know what the plans are, we must transmit them to the Time of Legends. Is your process ready?"
"It'll take a little time, Admiral. I'll have to bounce the signal off several Imperial carrier waves so it won't be recognized. Hopefully, their men will only view it as background interference."
"Good. Begin your work."
Having decided to take some time off from his bar, Quark stood on the upper level of the Promenade, gazing out towards the stars. Over the past few months, he had begun to question his decision to remain aboard Deep Space Nine. Sure, business was as good as ever, but things had changed drastically. Underhanded Imperial officers had wanted to take protection money from Quark, saying that he may meet with an unfortunate accident should he not pay. His brother, Rom, had urged him not to pay, but Quark could not see any other choice.
As he gazed out towards the stars, he saw a jump-point forming. Moments later, an Imperial Star Destroyer emerged and headed towards the station. Quark knew who the important passenger was aboard. Darkmagus had arrived.
Commander Travis waited nervously outside the airlock, waiting for the most important visitor to Deep Space Nine since the Imperials took control. As the honor guard of Imperial troopers began to assemble, the airlock door opened. Then, as Darkmagus emerged, Travis bowed low.
"Welcome, Darkmagus, to Deep Space Nine!"
"Stop your crawling, Commander!" he snapped.
"I'm not here for any official function! Palpatine should have told you why I'm here!"
"He did, and until you are prepared, I have seen that the best quarters are provided for you!"
"Good! Show me to them now."
As Darkmagus strode off down the corridor, Travis watched him walk away. In the past few moments, Travis had developed a loathing for the wizard.
Merlin watched as what seemed to be every technician under Free Federation command worked busily at preparing their new command center in Istarix. Soon, he was joined by Watt the elder.
"Everything is almost ready," said Watt. "All we need is for you to do your thing."
With a wave of his hand, Merlin changed the physical laws of the Time of Legends in Istarix. Suddenly, all the technology which did not work now did. Everything came to life.
"The rules that halted the Imperial invasion have just been changed," said Merlin.
"However, should the Imperials try to invade again, the rules will have to be changed back!"
Then, Watt noticed something. Plato's sensor board was suddenly beeping. Watt watched as Plato studied the panel intently. He could tell it was something important.
"A transmission, from the Admiral St. Germain, of the Earth Resistance force. They managed to bounce the signal off several Imperial carrier waves."
"What does it say?"
Plato brought the information up on the screen. It horrified Watt.
"Lieutenant, call a meeting of the Federation council."
As Captain Watt and Captain Janeway stood outside the main council chamber, having been summoned there nearly an hour previously, they talked over old times, of their days together at Starfleet Academy. Their conversation was halted as the newly promoted Captain Sisko walked down the corridor towards them.
"They called you as well, Ben?" said Watt. "Any idea why?"
"I haven't the foggiest!" said Sisko. "I was just told to be here!"
Sisko turned around and saw two others, Ro Laren and Roj Blake, approaching.
"You too, huh?" said Sisko.
"We just got the call," said Blake. "All I know is that this has something to do with that transmission they got from Earth."
"I hope we find out something soon," said Janeway.
She soon got her wish. Moments later, the door swung open. Plato showed them in, and they took seats around the table. It was then that Watt the elder got to his feet.
"Ladies and gentlemen, you're probably wondering why you were summoned here. Take a look at this."
Sisko smiled at the image that appeared on the screen before them. His old stomping ground, Deep Space Nine.
"The transmission from Earth was from Admiral St. Germain, the leader of the resistance movement there. It contained the minutes of the last meeting of the Imperial Council. Basically, after their last disastrous campaign, they have come up with a new game plan."
"Involving Deep Space Nine?" asked Sisko.
"Yes. It is their plan to use Darkmagus' power to reconstruct the Bajoran wormhole, so they can get more forces from the Gamma Quadrant far quicker."
"Is such a thing possible?" asked Ro.
"For an Istarian, yes," said Gandalf. "Darkmagus was always one of the most powerful of us. For him, it should be easy."
"So where do we come in on this?" asked Janeway.
"You, Captain Janeway, and you, Captain Sisko, are here for your connections. Our original intention was to contact the Maquis, and with their help, help the Bajoran resistance movement retake Bajor and Deep Space Nine. We had hoped to put this operation into effect in about six weeks, after some more careful planning. Now, because of these changes, all of that has gone out of the window."
"So what is the plan now?"
"The Voyager and the Defiant will travel to the D.M.Z., and there you will try to make contact with the Maquis and get their help. Meanwhile, the Valkyrie and the Liberator will travel to Bajor. There, you will contact Shakaar, believed to be the leader of the Bajoran resistance movement. Hopefully, we can all stop Darkmagus before he can do anything to the wormhole!"
