Rebellion: Civil War II Chapter Seven

Pendragon had called a meeting of all the senior officers of the ships under the command of the Free Federation. They each sat around the huge conference table in the Observation Lounge. Sisko and Dax represented the Defiant, Sinclair and Shelby for the Lohengrin, Picard and Riker for the Enterprise, Winthorn and Scott for the Scotsman, and Tarrant and Koenig for the Tempest. Both MacCleods were also present. Pendragon stood at the head of the table, a grim look on his face.

“You will all know by now that Commander Blake has taken the Liberator to face the invading force,” he started. “And with the information that has come to me, I believe we should join him.”

“What information?” asked Picard.

“The invading forces now seem to be gathering at Wolf 359, probably to launch a large-scale assault on Earth itself.”

“At least they know their Federation history,” said Sisko.

“Mr. Plato has managed to hack into what's left of the Federation communications net,” Pendragon continued. “All available starships are being sent to that region to combat that threat. I think we should join them in their battle against the invaders.”

“Why the change of mood?” asked Sinclair.

“Because Plato also found out that the Imperial and Sontarran forces have been joined by several Centauri warships. The Imperials helped the Centauri conquer several of the outlying Narn worlds in the past few hours. It appears there is now some sort of pact in existence between them.”

“If that's so then we could all be in trouble,” said Tarrant.

“Plato also picked up a signal from Babylon 5 to Starfleet command,” said Pendragon. “The Imperials have discovered a way of traveling great distances over a short period of time.”

“How?” asked Scotty.

“By opening up a jump-point soon after entering a jump-gate.”

“Where did they get that technology?” asked Riker. “We know they have warp capability, but not that level of technology!”

“I suppose it would work on a similar principle to Magus' cavourite drive,” said Scotty. “But it must use up a lot of power!”

“Power which we don't have,” said Pendragon. “We should leave within the next thirty minutes and head straight for Wolf 359. We'll be pushing the engines a bit but we should make it.”

“And what about Starfleet?” asked Koenig.

“General Hague is aboard the Saratoga, which is also heading for Wolf 359,” Pendragon replied. “We will contact him when we are near. Once again, I will take command of the Scotsman. The Valkyrie will have a skeleton crew under Commodore MacCleod's command, and will be left here to protect the Time if need be. Admiral MacCleod will remain in command of the station.”

Pendragon then seated himself in his chair. He activated his communicator. “Mister Plato, please try to contact Commander Blake aboard the Liberator and let him know we are on our way to join him.” He then turned to those seated before him. “I wish you luck. May your gods go with you.”

The last time an Imperial Star Destroyer had docked with Deep Space Nine was when Grand Moff Tarkin planned to bring the Death Star through the Bajoran wormhole. Now it docked with the station with a different agenda. From the balcony overlooking the Promenade, Admiral Nacheyev watched as a garrison of Imperial Stormtroopers and Jem'Hadar warriors began to make their presence felt. At the entrance to his bar, Quark watched as the customers were ushered out of his bar by several Stormtroopers. Despite all his protests, the Stormtroopers went about their business. Then, just as the docking was complete, a strange, dark ship appeared near the station, taking up a stationary position nearby. From her viewpoint, Admiral Nacheyev watched the strange vessel. It did not move an inch. She began to get a feeling of dread running through her body. She began to wonder what the Federation had let itself in for.

A lone Klingon Bird-of-Prey patrolled their border with the Federation, not having an inkling of what was about to happen. Nearby they saw a jump-point forming, and five Imperial ships suddenly emerged and moved into Klingon space. The Bird-of-Prey stood no chance. A Klingon colony was only light-years away, and it was an obvious target for the invading force. This time the Imperials met with more resistance. However, one Klingon attack cruiser was not enough against an Imperial Star Destroyer. They stood no chance. The battle in space soon over, the invading force focused their attack on the colony itself.

With all attention focused on the invading forces, no one noticed a huge space-faring object enter the Denara belt along the border between the Alpha and Delta Quadrants. The object was the size of a small planet, and carried the same power as a thousand starships. As it passed through the Denara Belt, it met up with several Sontarran warships, who joined it on its course into the Alpha Quadrant. It was soon on its way.

It was a battle they hoped would never happen, as a large mass of Centauri warships neared the Narn homeworld. The Narn forces were put on full alert, as a massive space battle began. The Narns fought bravely, and the battle went their way until the deciding factor arrived. Two Imperial Star Destroyers suddenly arrived on the scene and began attacking the Narn war cruisers. Soon, the Narn homeworld would fall, and the government would have only one more choice left to make.

Aboard his Imperial Star Destroyer, Darth Vader surveyed the space around his ship. The stars glistened as his thoughts were on the momentous task ahead, the battles that would be won, the campaign yet to come. His thoughts were interrupted as Major Kira was hustled onto the bridge by several Stormtroopers. Forcing her forward at gunpoint, she soon stood before Vader.

“I have brought you here for a demonstration, Major,” Vader boomed. “Do you recognize the sector of space we are currently in?”

Kira looked out of the window.

“We're still in the Gamma Quadrant.”

“Not for much longer.”

Vader turned to his navigation officer. “Ensign, please demonstrate our surprise for the Major. Engineering, power the engines.”

Vader returned his gaze to Kira. “You are about to see a demonstration of the power of the Empire. It will impress you.”

Kira watched as a jump-point formed a few kilometers in front of the Star Destroyer. They entered a few seconds later. Their journey took ten minutes. They emerged into a sector of space Kira did not recognize. They were soon in orbit around an M-class desert world.

“Where are we?” she asked.

“The natives of this world are known as the Ocampa,” Vader replied. “They are of no threat to the Empire, so we have left them alone.”

“I've never heard of the Ocampa.”

“I'm not surprised. We are in a portion of the galaxy you know as the Delta Quadrant.”

Kira's jaw dropped. They had traveled to the other end of the galaxy in a matter of minutes. Such a journey at maximum warp speed would take a starship over a hundred years.

“You are impressed,” said Vader. “You should be. It has taken us a lot of time to attain this, and soon, we shall have control of the galaxy!”

Once again Vader turned to the navigator. “Set course for the Bajoran system.”
