"I have been in constant communication with Admiral Necheyev and the Federation delegation. I hope to sign the historic treaty with the Dominion's chief delegate within the next two hours."
One man on D.S.9 was not happy, however. Commander Sisko marched into the Operations Room and toward his office. Those on duty could tell that they should stay away from him by the scowl on his face. Seconds later he was in his office. Inside were Admiral Necheyev and Borath, documents in their hands.
"Can I help you, Commander?", Necheyev asked.
"You most certainly can!". Sisko boomed. "I want to know why my chief of operations is being treated by in the Infirmary after being attacked by one of your Jem'Hadar heavies! I want to know why my science officer has been transferred to the Lexington! And I also want to know why the Federation is about to sign a treaty with a galactic power we know almost nothing about!"
"The fact is, Commander, is that we are pulling out of this sector.", said Necheyev.
"Pulling out? What do you mean?"
"The protection of Bajor is being taken care of by the Jem 'Hadar!"
"And what about the people of Bajor? Don't they have a say in this?"
"Everything has been agreed!"
"Then I'm going to do something to stop this!"
"You can't. You're also being transferred, and promoted. Congratulations, Captain Sisko!"
"It's what you always wanted.", said Borath. "A command of your own! It's one step closer to being an admiral!"
"So I'm shipped out of here, and Bajor is thrown to the wolves! You've got to stop this!"
"I can't.", said Necheyev. "President Servalan has arrived on the station, and will sign the treaty herself within the next two hours."
Realising he had reached a dead end, Sisko slammed his fist into the desk and stormed off, out of the office and onto the turbo-lift.
A few minutes later he was in the corridor of the habitat ring. There, he bumped into Zarkoff.
"I was looking for you, Commander, or should I say Captain now?" "Don't joke with me, Zarkoff!" "Reports say that Servalan will shortly sign the treaty between the Federation and the Dominion. There are also rumours saying that the Bajorans have formed a pact with the Romulans to fight the Jem'Hadar, and that you will be returning to Bajor soon to fight them. Are these rumours true?"
"They could be? So what?"
"I know you are not happy with the current turn of events. How would you like to change all this?"
"What are you talking about?"
"With the Defiant you have the power to change all of this, to stop the Dominion from sending re-inforcements. I think you know what I mean!"
"I do know what you mean. Perhaps we should talk with my senior officers!"
Kira had returned to the garden. She looked around, but she could not see Odo anywhere.
"Odo! Odo! Are you here?"
Again she looked around, thinking that Odo could have taken the form of one of the objects in the garden. Then, in the distance, she heard a noise. It was the beating of wings. In the sky she could see a large bird, flying towards her. Then, it landed on the ground in front of her, and began to change, altering it's form, until it became the more familiar shape of Odo. Kira smiled when she saw how happy he seemed.
"Odo! I don't think I've ever seen you look happier!"
"You have no idea what it's like, Major!", Odo replied. "It was exilerating, flying over the landscape, feeling the winds beneath my wings as I soared through the sky! I've never felt anything close to this before!"
"I'm pleased for you, Odo, but I'm afraid I can't stay here much longer. I've been trying to contact someone else, but my signals are being blocked."
"Blocked? By what?"
"A sub-terranian power source. I located the source, but couldn't get any further. I was blocked by a door."
"A door? What would my people do with a door? We have no need for doors!"
"I don't know either, but I thought as you're probably going to stay here, you'd want to help me one last time."
"Of course, Major. It's the least I could do."
Kira then led Odo to where the door was.
On the Ocampa homeworld, the Voyager away team was getting nowehere. Everywhere they went, their attempts to find Kim and Torres were being blocked. They noticed, however, that while they were under the planet's surface, the energy pulese from the Caretaker were getting quicker and quicker. Then, Janeway recieved a call from the ship. She got this call just as the ground shook. The energy pulse had changed.
"Captain, the array is re-aligning itself. It's now firing an energy weapon at the planet, trying to destroy the conduits!"
Upon hearing this, Tuvok began to think. Perhans he now knew the reason for the Caretaker's behaviour.
The time had come. Hordes of reporters had gathered in the conference suite aboard D.S.9, as Servalan and Borath sat side by side, putting the final touches to the treaty between the Federation and the Dominion. It seemed that the people of the Federation were pleased, and that Servalan would sweep to victory in the election.
Not all Federation citizens were pleased, however. On the Promenade, Sisko was talking to Bashir.
"Everything's in place, Commander.", said Bashir. "I've even managed to get some help from a most unlikely source, although when you come to think about it, it's not unlikely!"
"Who?"
"From Garak. I've a feeling we're going to need all the help we can get!"
Then, they heard a noise. Someone was running down the Promenade, and calling out Sisko's name. He soon saw who it was. Toru soon come into view, and she was being chased by three Jem'Hadar warriors.
"Commander! Commander!", she called. "You must stop them!"
But it was too late. Sisko could not find out what she was talking about. Two blasts from the Jem'Hadar phasers knocked her off her feet and into Sisko's arms. Seconds later, she died.
"Put her down!", the warrior said.
Sisko stared him straight in the eye. He then did as he was told, not wanting to get into another argument.
The Jem'Hadar warriors tonk Toru away. The crowd that had gathered around them began to disperse. Once they had gone, Sisko activated his communicator.
"Sisko to Dax. Find Zarkoff and tell him I'm bringing the plan forward!"
