RE-POST: WAW October Outrage III, October 2001 - Live Show Review

After the success of the Fightmare event in April, and their failed attempt at getting a television contract with Sky, I attended this event with some doubts, the main one being the main event was the WAW Women's World Championship contest between Sweet Saraya and Klondike Kate.

RE-POST: WAW Fightmare, April 2001 - Live Show Review

In years gone by, it has been said by many British wrestling fans that home-grown wrestling shows...well, they basically sucked. I admit, I was one of those people. But last night, my opinion of British wrestling changed - for the better.

The World Association of Wrestling Fightmare event had been hyped up in the local press and television for close to a month. WAW owner and promoter Ricky Knight had told everyone who would listen of his dream to see British wrestling once again with a regular slot on British television. He wanted to make home-grown stars as popular and familiar as those from across the pond.

Remember the UKWA? I've Found the Pay-Per-View!

Those of you with long memories may remember that way back in 2000 I toyed with the idea of running a fantasy professional wrestling game, or E-Fed as they were known back then. I discussed the idea with a bloke I knew back then, Basil "Junkpile" Richards, and to see if I could actually write a weekly wrestling show I undertook a little personal project called the United Kingdom Wrestling Alliance (UKWA), which involved writing four weekly shows, "Wednesday Rampage", and the pay-per-view, "The New Age", held at Norwich City's football ground, Carrow Road.

The four weekly shows can be seen in the Fiction section of this blog, but for years, after various computer and website problems, that "The New Age" had been lost forever. That was until last night when, with the help of the wonderful Wayback Machine, when I found the complete show on an old version of my website.

RE-POST: WAW Fightmare - DVD Review

This is going to be a strange experience. Almost four years ago I, along with about 2,000 other people, filled the Norwich Sports Village for one of the biggest wrestling shows in Britain, ever - the World Association of Wrestling's Fightmare show. Now, nearly a year after part one was released on DVD, and almost silenced by aching tonsils, I have decided to relive some old memories.

I'm Jumping on the Bandwagon

Some of you may have heard that there's a film about professional wrestling coming out soon. "Fighting With My Family" tells the story of WWE superstar Paige and her family, the Knights, a family I had a close association with a few years ago when I worked for the World Association of Wrestling. Well, I say worked, I was more of a volunteer.

Well, a few years ago I decided to remove all WAW-related content because of all of the s**t I was getting. (Cheap plug: read my reasons by clicking on this link!) As I was nearing my 40th birthday I really was pi**ed off at the treatment I was getting from them and their associates.

But despite cutting my ties with them and their associates it's been quite difficult to ignore them, especially with the youngest of their clan carving out a successful career for herself with the world's largest wrestling company.

So, with all the hype surrounding the film, as well as the hype surrounding their upcoming Fightmare 3 show at Norwich City's Carrow Road football stadium, I've decided to jump on the bandwagon.

From Pet Shop to Pie Shop

I have to admit I'm feeling a bit depressed today. Seeing these photos on Facebook were an untimely reminder of just how things have gone these past few months or so.
