"It is good to see you, Commander. We have much to discuss, most notably, your leaving my world."
"Why would I want to leave Zykon?" Vranch asked.
"Our bargain is complete! I lured a Free Federation ship here, and you have several of their officers prisoner."
Vranch sat in a chair opposite Mentor.
"I'm afraid our little deal has changed, Mentor. Zykon is strategically important to the Empire. This world of yours is very useful to us!"
"That wasn't part of our deal, Commander! You have what you want!"
"As I said, the deal has changed! The Imperial presence on Zykon will remain! Good day to you!"
And with that Vranch left Mentor alone. For years the Imperials had left Zykon alone, thinking it not worthy of their attention. Now, all that had changed. The peace that had existed before the Imperials would never return. Mentor had to find a way of getting rid of Vranch and his men, but how? Then, he saw the way: Psyche.
Vranch soon made his way to the main control room in the palace. Once he arrived a young officer got his attention.
"Commander, I'm detecting an unauthorized access to the top files in Psyche," he reported.
Vranch walked over to the young officer's station.
"The fool is trying to access the self-destruct program!" Vranch signaled to the Storm Trooper commander.
"Send your men to the Throne Room! Stop Mentor at all costs!"
For the past few minutes, Maya had thought about what Koenig had told her. Had the Imperials really enslaved hundreds of worlds? Could they really be the enemies of Zykon, instead of the planet's friends? She was sad and confused. She didn't know what to think anymore. She needed something to cheer herself up, and exercising her extraordinary powers helped her in this way.
Concentrating hard, she began to mentally alter the molecules of her body, altering her form, until she got smaller and smaller, taking the form of a Terran mouse, but still retaining her intelligence. She nearly regretted taking this form as a band of Imperial Storm Troopers rushed into the corridor, almost marching right over her. She wondered what was going on. Her acute hearing had managed to pick up something from one of the troopers. Something was going on, and it didn't sound good. She decided to investigate.
Scurrying along the floor as fast as she could, Maya soon entered the Throne Room. What she saw distressed her greatly. As one storm trooper pulled Mentor away from the computer, two others bound his hands with cuffs. Mentor protested until he was blue in the face, but this did not change anything. He was dragged away kicking and screaming. Maya knew now that Koenig had been right all along. Concentrating once more, she used her powers to alter her form, taking the form of a white dove. She then flew in the direction of the cells.
As Koenig sat in his cell he was surprised to see a white dove flying a few feet outside. Then, Koenig looked on in wonder as the dove changed its form, becoming Maya before his eyes.
"How did you do that?" Koenig asked.
"I haven't got any time to explain," Maya replied. "You were right about the Empire! My father has just been taken away by the storm troopers!"
"Release us, and we will help you!"
Maya walked over to the computer panel, and pressed the button. The force fields on all three cells vanished. Koenig was soon joined by Bergman and Verdeschi. Koenig was still concerned.
"What about the guards nearby?" he asked.
"Let me take care of them," said Maya.
Maya concentrated, and once again her form began to change. This time she took on the form of some kind of alien monster, the likes of which they had never seen before. She then moved off down the corridor where she could not be seen. They then heard screams as the guards were taken care of. She then took her more normal, human-looking form, signaling to the others that the way was all clear.
As Mentor sat in the interrogation room, Mentor looked up as Vranch circled around him.
"What treachery were you planning, Mentor?" he asked. "What were you up to?"
Mentor did not answer with words. He answered with a laugh.
"You can try anything you want, Mentor. It doesn't matter! The Imperial presence on your world will be triple what it is now! Your people and your world are doomed! Zykon now belongs to the Empire!"
Vranch was now virtually nose to nose with Mentor. Once more, all he could do was laugh.
Then it happened. The ground beneath their feet began to shake. The buildings, the walls, began to crack and fall apart, and still all Mentor could do was laugh in Vranch's face.
