The Battle for Babylon 5: Civil War II Chapter Thirty-Six

The preparations for the forthcoming mission to Babylon 5 were taking up most of Watt's time. Ever since he had escaped from Earth, most of his time had been taken up with affairs of the Free Federation. He had had little time to think of his family. However, he was sure that they were safe on Vulcan. It was as he strode through the corridors of the Pegasus station, datapad in hand, that he came across a woman he hoped he wouldn't have to see, but knew it was inevitable that he would.

Upon seeing Lt. Commander Devon Adair, his mind became totally distracted from the task at hand. Watt couldn't help but smile at seeing her. He hadn't seen her since she served as a young lieutenant aboard the Valkyrie. Five years ago, Watt cared very deeply about Devon, and it was their relationship that cost him his marriage.

Devon was pleased at seeing Watt. The two friends embraced, exchanging a friendly hug.

"It's good to see you again, Devon," said Watt.

"It's been such a long time," said Devon.

It wasn't easy for both of them. They had shared many wonderful moments together, but that was five years ago, and it had caused Watt such pain with the breakup of his marriage. All Watt could do was look at Devon.

"I've... I've got to go. I've got to finish preparing for this mission. We'll have to talk later."

As Watt walked down the corridor, Devon tried to say something, but somehow, the words, the words she had wanted to say for five years, only came out after he had gone.

"Jim, you have a son."

As she walked off, she failed to notice Magus watching her. Magus knew, and he also knew that he could not tell Watt. Devon had to do that for herself.

After a long time, Lom was back in his favourite place, doing his favourite thing. The Valkyrie had to ship out in less than twelve hours, and to Lom, she was in no way in tip-top shape, and he was glad to be getting a little help, even if it was from a couple of dogs.

"It will not work!" Lom stated. "The flow must come through the dilithium chamber! But the cavourite drive works in an entirely different matter."

"Look here," said Teddy.

Toby used his nose to press a button on the computer panel, and to Teddy's annoyance, it was the wrong one. A picture of Lassie soon replaced the technical schematic. Teddy looked down at his friend with a look of disgust.

"An in-depth conversation on the laws of physics interrupted by a Labrador's libido!" said Teddy, before using his nose to bring the diagram back on the screen. "Now let me continue, Commander. The cavourite drive will directly replace the dilithium chamber, increasing the speed capability by one hundred and fifty percent at least! A trip to the Gamma Quadrant, the long way round, would take a matter of weeks rather than decades!"

"Maybe," Lom replied. "But I'm still not sure."

The conversation was interrupted when Commander Sutek entered. As soon as the Vulcan entered Toby sprang to his feet, stared at him, and growled.

"I've come to see how the repairs are going," Sutek said.

"They're going well," Lom replied. "We should be finished ahead of time."

"Good. If you need me, I'll be on the bridge."

Toby continued to growl at Sutek. Teddy stared at him. He could tell something was wrong about him. Just before Sutek left Toby began to bark at him.

"What is wrong with him?" asked Lom.

"Whatever it was, I can't tell," Teddy replied. "There's something different about our Vulcan friend. What it is I can't quite put my paw on. Now, where were we? Oh yes, the cavourite drive!"
