WWE The Bash on Sky Sports - TV Review

It used to be great, and it used to be American, but in an attempt to disassociate itself from all things WCW, World Wrestling Entertainment re-branded and presented The Bash, shown live here in Britain on Sky Sports in the early hours of the Sunday morning, with Jeff Hardy challenging C.M. Punk for the World title, and Triple H challenging Randy Orton in a Three Stages of Hell match for the WWE title.

TNA Slammiversary on Bravo 2 - TV Review

It’s gimmick match overload time again, as Total Non-Stop Action celebrate their seventh year of business with Slammiversary, headlined by a King of the Mountain match for the TNA World Championship, and shown on a three day delay here in Britain on Bravo 2. Commentary duties are handled, as always, by Mike Tenay and Don West.

ROH Proving Ground 2009 Night Two - DVD Review

A few weeks ago we stepped into Ring of Honor territory with a review of Proving Ground 2009 Night One. Now we’re going to pick up where we left off, by taking a look at the second show that weekend, Proving Ground 2009 Night Two, headlined by former WWE and TNA star D-Lo Brown challenging Nigel McGuinness for the ROH World title.

UFC The Ultimate Finale USA v UK on Setanta Sports - TV Review

It’s been a long twelve weeks. We had a case of herpes, fainting incidents, guys failing to make weight, egg throwing, a guy hitting himself with a sledgehammer, and a fighter gagging on his gum shield. Oh, and there were a few fights as well as mixed martial artists from America and Britain fought it out to make it to the lightweight and welterweight finals of The Ultimate Fighter at UFC’s The Ultimate Finale, shown live here in Britain on Setanta in the early hours of Sunday morning, with Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan handling commentary duties.

TNA Second 2 None: World's Toughest Tag-Teams - DVD Review

When you compare the WWE to TNA, there are some areas where WWE are on top, but others where TNA do so much better. One example of this is TNA’s tag-team division. This is why they’ve recently released a two-disc set entitled “Second 2 None: World’s Toughest Tag-Teams”. But as far as tag-teams go, are TNA really “second 2 none”? That’s what I’m hoping to find out by reviewing this collection.

It was a night of returns and great anticipation, with Caol Uno and Mirko Cro Cop making their Octagon returns, and Rich Franklin going up against Wanderlei Silva as the Ultimate Fighting Championship made their German debut at UFC 99: The Comeback, shown live on Setanta Sports here in Britain this past Saturday night, with Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan handling the commentary duties.

RIP Misawa

As I logged on to the internet on Saturday evening, the first thing I saw was the sad news that one of Japan’s all-time great wrestling stars, Mitsuhara Misawa, had passed away. He was just 46 years old.

Shimmer Volume 3 - DVD Review

During my recent looks at women’s wrestling, there’s one promotion I’ve neglected, even though I’ve owned one of their DVDs for quite a while now - Shimmer, the sister promotion of Ring of Honor. So for this review I’m going to take a little trip back in time to Shimmer Volume 3, featuring Daizee Haze against Sara Del Rey in the main event, and other stars such as Nikki Roxx, Lexie Fyfe, Malia Hosaka and Allison Danger.

Shimmer Volume 3 - CPC Movies DVD Review

Over the past few years I’ve seen many all-women wrestling promotions, from Britain, France, the USA, and, of course, Japan, and even though they’ve been going for quite a while now, I’ve never seen anything from Ring of Honor’s sister promotion, Shimmer.

K-1 World GP 2007 in Seoul: The Final 16 - DVD Review

With Eurosport continually failing to supply my regular fix of K-1 kickboxing action, I’ve once again decided to turn to a DVD release, courtesy of MMA Universe. So in this review we’ll be going back in time to 2007, and the K-1 World GP 2007 in Seoul: The Final 16, with sixteen men, among the likes of “Sugarfoot” Ray Sefo, “The Dutch Lumberjack” Peter Aerts, Semmy Schilt and the giant Hong Man Choi looking to move on to the final eight in Tokyo.

K-1 World GP in Seoul 2007 - CPC Movies DVD Review

Over the past few years Eurosport has served it’s K-1 fans well, giving us a steady stream of kickboxing action from around the world. But now, with the shows only being shown on their high definition channel or via their internet pay TV service, many fans, including yours truly, are now missing out.

The Wrestler - DVD Review

It’s not often that you see a film that is so realistic and brilliantly made it’s also quite scary at the same time. This is the case with the critically acclaimed Mickey Rourke film “The Wrestler”, recently released on DVD here in Britain.

Wrestlerock 14: Get In The Ring - DVD Review

We’re heading down under for my latest review, as Jag Hartley Jackson renews his rivalry with Australia’s weapon of mass destruction, Chris Knight, and Krackerjak faces a British radio disc jockey (sadly it’s not Jimmy Saville) at Wrestlerock 14: Get In The Ring, held at the Hi-Fi Bar in Melbourne this past November.

Wrestlerock 14 - CPC Movies DVD Review

There are times when it feels great to be a wrestling fan. For months and months you watch as characters grow and develop. But then a dramatic situation comes along that makes you feel even better.

Wrestling Then & Now: The Movie - DVD Review

Some of you reading this may know the name of Evan Ginzburg. He’s the editor of Wrestling Then & Now, a fanzine that has been going for nearly twenty years. He’s an author, his biography, Apartment 4B, Like In Brooklyn received a number of great reviews (including from yours truly). He was also an associate producer on one of the most critically acclaimed films ever, Mikey Rourke’s The Wrestler. Now he’s back with his own documentary.

Jeff Jarrett: King of the Mountain - DVD Review

It was about twenty years ago, on a Monday afternoon wrestling show on Screensport here in Britain, when I first saw a young, good looking wrestler with long blonde hair. I immediately saw how talented he was, and I began to wonder how he’d fair in the big leagues of the NWA and the WWF. The answer was pretty bloody well. But I never had any idea that he would go on to found a wrestling promotion that would, within the space of just a few years, go on to become the second biggest wrestling promotion in the United States. That man was Jeff Jarrett, and the company, Total Non-Stop Action.
