The New Age - Chapter Twenty-Nine

For minutes Watt watched as Magus was motionless, his arms extended either side of him. The wizard was using his powers to scan vast areas of space, hoping that he could find the slightest trace of Darkmagus. Suddenly his eyes opened.    “Have you found anything?” asked Watt.

“There is a trace of him near Saturn.” Magus replied. “But it is only a slight trace.”
Watt grabbed hold of Magus’ hand.
“Hang on for your life.” he said.
And with that they flew off at an incredible speed.

Jock Muir and Daniel Reid pulled up outside the Muir Industries compound. The Scotsman felt slightly uneasy.
    “What’s the matter?” asked Reid.
“Nothing.” said Muir. “It’s just that the last time I was here X and I fought Xusia and lost. Since then I haven’t seen hide nor hare of my son.”
“I’m sure he’s alright.” said Reid.
As they drove through the gates of the compound Muir was happy to see that normal security had been restored. They soon made their way to the main development labs. Reid was impressed.
“You’ve got a wonderful set-up here.” he said.
“Aye lad.” Muir replied. “And we’d pay an arm and a leg to get someone with your knowledge on board.”
    Muir smiled.
“Unfortunately I’m immersed in some big work of my own at the moment. In fact ‘m due to give a lecture about it at the London University soon.”
They soon came upon a large door. After entering his own personal security door Muir opened the door. What greeted him shocked and saddened him. It looked like a bomb had hit the place. It had been totally ransacked.
“Damn and blast it!” he cursed. “No matter where you go Darkmagus# cronies always seem to be one step ahead of you!”
“Can we still use what you wanted us to?” asked Reid.
“I bloody well hope so. If not we’ll never defeat those sleeper agents!”

Magus and Watt flew towards the ringed planet of Saturn. Magus pointed towards the distance when he saw something.
    “Look! Darkmagus!”
“Looks like he’s back to his normal size.” said Watt.
Indeed he was. Darkmagus appeared to be writing about in space, clasping his head and talking to himself. But he suddenly stopped this when he saw Magus and Watt approaching. A glow then appeared around him and he once again took on his larger form. He then pointed his arms towards them as he prepared to fire another burst of energy at them. It was then that Watt let go of Magus and flew towards Darkmagus at his top speed. He then unleashed a flurry of blows upon Darkmagus’ huge body. Blow after blow followed at super-speed, but none of these blows had any effect on Darkmagus. Instead he just raised his hand and swatted Watt away like a fly. Seeing this Magus flew towards his brother and fired several bolts of mystical energy at him. Each of them hit him, but none of them had the desired effect. Then it was the turn of Darkmagus as he raised his arm and fired a massive blast of energy at Magus which hit him and sent him flying back.

Reid and Muir had soon cleared away most of the debris that had been thrown about by the strange intruder. A smile then appeared on Muir’s face as he could now get to the door he was looking for. He again entered his personal security door, and the door opened. What Reid saw made his jaw drop. He had never seen anything like this before.
“What you are looking at is Muir Industries latest invention.” said Muir. “The Aquaplane, developed for deep sea exploration and capable of travelling to the bottom of the ocean. Just the thing we need to get back at Darkmagus.”
“Will it hold all of us?” asked Reid. “And what about the heat?”
“Bessie should be able to handle the heat.”
    “Bessie?”
“Just a pet name I’ve given to the old girl.”
Then they heard a sound from outside. It was the sound of gun fire. The skirmish soon made it’s way into the building as a group of Darkmagus’ androids entered.
“Blast!” Muir cursed. “This is all we need!”
“Whatever we do we must protect…Bessie at any cost.”

The limp unconscious form of Magus floated through space. Then he suddenly found himself shaken. Slowly he began to regain his senses and he saw Watt looking down at him.
    “Are you okay?”
“I just got caught with one of my brother’s blasts. It seemed that even if we combine our power we can’t defeat him.”
    “Then our battle is lost.”
“No. There is one way. Darkmagus could be defeated from within his own mind!”

A group of ten androids piled into the building as Muir and Reid prepared themselves for battle. The androids began to fire their blasts and the energy began to ricochet off the walls, barely missing Reid and Muir. Muir countered with several of his sting blasts which only partially damaged some of the androids. Reid used his stretching power to attack some of the androids with his fists but this only resulted in Reid hurting his hand. Then one of the androids began to move towards the submarine and fired his blaster at it, damaging it. The other androids soon saw this and they started to retreat. This tactic baffled Muir and Reid until they saw the damage to the craft. Muir rushed over to inspect it.
“Can it be repaired?” asked Reid.
    “I don’t know. I need time.”
“Perhaps we’d better get it back to the mansion. I’ve some equipment there which could speed things up.”

Alone Watt flew towards the huge form of Darkmagus, who still seemed to be in some pain. Watt was soon at his full speed and he barged into Darkmagus. He then caught Darkmagus with blow after blow, and this time these blows had some sort of effect as they caught the evil wizard off-guard. Darkmagus was about to fight back when suddenly he was hit from behind by several blasts of mystical energy. He turned round to see Magus facing him. Magus continued with this attack, and these too seemed to have their desired effect. But this did not last for long. Darkmagus soon recovered his senses and he fired a burst of energy at Watt. Once again Watt was sent flying. Then he turned to face Magus. He was surprised when Magus did nothing to attack him. All his brother did was look at him. Then Magus spoke.
“Q! Q! I know you can here me!”
“You are a fool brother! Q is not here! The only thing of the Q here is his power!”
“Q! If you can hear me I beg you, try to escape from Darkmagus’ mind. I know that you can gain partial control of your power. This should be enough for you. You should be able to escape!”
Darkmagus let out another huge cry of pain as he clutched his head. He began to spin and around, and slowly he began to revert back to his normal size.
“Q! Break free! If you value your very existence I urge you, break free!”
Seconds later Watt began to fly back, and he soon witnessed something extraordinary. It was as if a ghost was coming out of Darkmagus’ very form. Darkmagus was crying out in pain even louder now. He had never felt pain like this before. Slowly a face began to form on the ghost. Magus recognised it. It was Q. Q was pulling himself, and his power, away from Darkmagus. Then, as Q began to take a more solid form Darkmagus lost consciousness and his lifeless form began to drift in space. Q then looked down on his body. He placed his hands on his chest and his stomach. He then smiled and raised his arms in triumph.
    “I am free!”

The back yard of the mansion looked like a garage as Muir and Reid hurriedly tried to repair “Bessie”. White Knight looked on, and he looked impatient.
“Are you sure this thing is going to work?” he asked.
“I haven’t tested her yet.” said Muir. “But I’m very hopeful.”
Then Reid emerged from inside the craft.
“I’ve managed to get the computer working.” he said.
Muir then removed his welding glasses and switched off his torch.
“The hull should hold also.” he said. “We haven’t got time to test her. If you want to get rid of Darkmagus’ cronies then we’d better hurry.”
White Knight then walked into the mansion to give the others the news. Muir and Reid did not notice that he had his fingers crossed.

Watt watched as Magus and Q, perhaps two of the most powerful beings he had ever seen, spoke to each other.
“It seems that I am in your debt Magus.” said Q. “You have freed me from my prison within Darkmagus’ mind.”
“If I remember correctly I was in your debt after out little skirmish with Saruman.” said Magus.
“Then I shall consider that debt closed.” said Q.
Magus turned to look at Darkmagus, who was still unconscious.
“And what of my brother?” he asked.
“I shall take him off your hands as it were.” Q replied. “There are many in the continuum who would like to know how he made it to our domain. Those are questions that only he can answer.”
“What about our friends?” asked Watt. “Are they okay?”
“Look into the distance, Captain.” said Q.
Watt did as Q said, and in the distance they could see all of their comrades flying towards them. They were all well.
“Their life energies have been restored to them.” said Q. “And now I will take my leave of you. Once again Magus I thank you.”
Q then twirled his hand and he, and Darkmagus, vanished.
