The Rise of Supremus - Chapter Three

Reid rushed into what was left of Supremus’ cell. He soon saw Muir lying on the floor near the control panel. He rushed over to him. Muir was just starting to come round.
    “W-w-what happened?” he asked.
    “Take it easy.” said Reid.
Muir felt blood running down his face. It came from a gash on his temple about two inches long. He began to feel woozy again. Then several security guards ran into the cell.
“Do you have an infirmary here?” Reid shouted.
    One of the guards nodded.
    “Get him to it.”
Two of the guards helped Muir out of the cell. It was after this that Reid noticed that the computer was still working. He went over to the panel. The readings on the panel showed the last sensor readings.

Supercop soared through the air and near mach one speed. The huge form of Supremus about half a mile away from him. The American had never seen anything like this before. Sure, he had had many battles in his time, but he had no idea what sort of power Supremus possessed.
About half a mile behind Supercop Star Man and Marvel Boy flew along in the sky-jet. Marvel Boy did not look happy.
“He’s getting away.” he shouted. “Look how bloody fast he’s going!”
“The sensors show he’s flying at mach four.” said Star Man. “Supercop can only fly as fast as mach one.”
Supercop continued with his chase. For some reason Supremus began to slow down. Supercop had no idea what was going on. He had read the file on Supremus so he knew that the giant mutate could be very unpredictable. Suddenly Supremus stopped in mid-flight and turned to face Supercop. To avoid a collision Supercop also stopped. Supremus did nothing. He did not attack or make any defensive moves. None of those was forthcoming. Supremus just stared at the American.
“You are not of Anglo-Force!” he boomed. “I must have revenge on those who imprisoned me!”
Supremus then noticed the sky-jet in the distance. He closed his eyes for a few seconds.
“Ah!” he boomed. “One of Anglo-Force approaches!”
Supremus extended his hand, and a bolt of pure energy began to form. A second later the bolt shot out of his hand and struck the sky-jet. They had no time to get out of the way. The jet began to fall like a dead weight, smoke billowing out of one of it’s engines.
“I’ve lost control!” Star Man screamed. “The escape hatch his jammed!”
Marvel Boy placed his hands on his temples, and a telekinetic blast blasted through the jammed escape hatch. This allowed Star Man and Marvel Boy to escape as the jet crashed to the ground, the ensuing explosion lighting up the sky for miles around.
“You check to see if anyone was hurt down there.” ordered Star Man. “I’m going after Supremus.”
Supremus continued to hover in front of Supercop, and he still didn’t make a move towards him. Suddenly he looked into the distance past Supercop. A smile appeared on his face.
“One approaches!” he said. “One of Anglo-Force nears me!”
Supercop turned around to see Star Man flying towards them. He did not notice Supremus raising his hand and aiming it towards his comrade. Another bolt of pure energy came from his hand and struck Star Man.
“Steve!” Supercop cried, flinging himself downwards as Star Man fell to the ground.
“Could it be so?” mused Supremus aloud. “Could the stranger have been one of them also?”
Star Man was still falling towards the ground, having been knocked unconscious from the energy blast. Supercop was flying at his near stop speed but it seemed that this was not enough. He summoned up nearly all of his remaining power and slowly overtook Star Man. He then managed to swoop to his right and grab hold of Star Man fifteen feet from the ground.
    “That was close!” Supercop gasped.
He gently laid Star Man on the ground and then flew off into the sky to confront Supremus. As he sped along he suddenly found himself in the grasp of a giant hand. He looked upwards and was surprised at what he saw. Supremus had grown to thirty foot in height. There was no mention of this power in the file Supercop had read.
“Ha!” Supremus laughed. “You puny humans are all the same. You think you are a match for Supremus, and yet you are no match! I will squeeze the life out of you!”
Supremus began to squeeze Supercop with his now-massive hand. Great pain seared through his body. Supercop did not know how much longer he could stand this for. Suddenly an energy burst ripped into Supremus’ skull, forcing him to release his grip on Supercop, who fell to the ground with a resounding thud. Supremus looked down towards the ground, but before he could do anything another blast hit his head.
“How can this be?” screamed Supremus. “Another one is here, and virtually a child at that!”
Supremus looked down to see Marvel Boy standing on the ground in front of him. Before the giant mutate could do anything another burst of telekinetic energy hit him. This blast weakened him, and it forced him to return to his normal size of ten feet tall.
“This should not have happened!” he boomed. “I have been defeated! I must flee!”
Supremus took to the air, but he was gone before anyone could follow him.

The emergency services were soon on the scene, and full power was restored to the rest of the prison so no one could escape. Marvel Boy soon made his way to what was left of Supremus’ cell. He soon found Reid and Simon Muir working on the control panel. Muir had a piece of bandage pressed to his temple.
“Where are the others?” Reid asked.
“Both were injured in the battle.” Marvel Boy replied. “They’re on their way back to the mansion.”
“You should look at this.” said Reid. “Young Mr. Muir and myself think we’ve found the reason why Supremus was able to escape the stasis field. Mr. Muir?”
“I don’t know how, but Supremus was actually taking energy from the stasis field and using it to give himself enough power to escape. He obviously wasn’t fully subdued when he was first brought here.”
“He was low on power when we left.” said Marvel Boy. “I have him three telekinetic blasts, and that weakened him. But I did find out that he has gained some new powers, powers which were not on the files at the mansion.”
“If you’ve read the files as intently as I have then you may also know where Supremus may be heading.”

It was four o’clock in the morning, and the entire city of London had been placed under curfew by the government, with orders to arrest anyone who was found in the streets. The only ones on the street were those from the military and emergency services. The entire operation was being coordinated by a certain General Billiar. He stood in Trafalgar Square directing everyone, giving them orders, as if he owned the entire city. It was a few seconds later when he saw what was to him an unwelcome sight in the sky, the sight of three airborne figures, one of them a many carrying another, and one of a woman dressed in a red and yellow costume. This did not please him.
“Blasted Anglo-Force!” he cursed. “This is the last thing I need!”
The three of them landed nearby. Billiar recognised them as Watt, Solo and Red Sun. As soon as they had landed he approached them.
“I didn’t ask for any help from Anglo-Force.” the General shouted. “The military are perfectly capable of handling this threat.”
“I hardly think a few soldiers can handle one of the powerful forces on this planet.” said Watt.
“I think we can.” said Billiar. “Every road out of London is blocked by my men.”
“I hardly think Supremus is going to come into London driving a Ford Escort!” said Solo. “You really have no idea, do you?”
“Paul’s right.” said Watt. “There should be a barrage of the Thames, as well as substantial air cover. As far as we know Supremus could already be in London!”
Then Watt’s communicator flashed. The call was from White Knight.
    “Go ahead.” said Watt.
“Marvel Boy, Star Man and Dr. Reid have returned to the mansion.” said White Knight. “Supercop has joined me.”
“Good.” said Watt. “Go to Tower Bridge. You should be able to see quite a bit from there. Stay there until I contact you. Watt out.”
    Billiar looked very annoyed.
“How dare you put your men in those positions.” he said. “I’m running the operations here.”
“General, my men and I are quite capable of handling this threat.” said Watt. “Your men will only get in the way. I suggest you tell your men just to keep the streets clear. I hardly think a few bullets and some grenades can take care of Supremus.”
And with that Watt took to the sky, leaving Red Sun and Solo behind.
“Who the hell does he think he is?” boomed Billiar.
