Gabriel Ain't No Angel

A few days ago the BBC’s Amelia Reynolds took to the streets of Norwich to get some views on the current state of things regarding the coronavirus pandemic. She managed to get a wide range of views, and expectedly among the more serious and sensible people she encountered some whose views made you want to bang your head against the wall.

There was the old man sitting on a bench eating chips who seemed to believe that everything was okay now, a woman who seemed to find wearing a face covering quite inconvenient, as well as a young chap called Gabriel who made you want to bang your head on that wall a hell of a lot harder.

Instead of trying to describe what he said I uploaded the video to my Youtube channel so you can see for yourself what he had to say:

That was quite eye opening, wasn’t it? When I first saw it I thought that perhaps he was just playing up and acting like a dick for the television cameras. Then I saw what his friend had to say, and the fact the she’s been working on the front line in a care home made me wonder why Gabriel held such a view.

So is Gabriel genuine in his views about the pandemic or was he just playing up to the cameras? I’ll leave that for you to decide.

But the fact that once again views like this about the pandemic are being spouted just goes to show how some people just don’t get it. It’s shocking and scary that nearly five months after Boris Johnson locked the country down there’s people in this country who think that it’s more or less over and that we should return to the way of life we enjoyed at the beginning of the year.

The local restrictions in some parts of England, and in other parts of the world for that matter, just go to show that we are far from the end game as far as the pandemic is concerned. Sure, Boris and boys have made some mistakes along the way, and they should have done some things sooner. But what previous experience did our government, or any current government in the world for that matter, have in dealing with a pandemic?

The best thing we can do is to follow the guidelines as best we can. If that means wearing a face covering in a shop then so be it. If that means following the one-way systems in our ten centres so be it. If it means that we have to maintain social distancing then so be it.

If it means that people like Gabriel will finally wake up and realise that we’re all in this horrible mess together then so be it, because frankly I’m fed up with reading and hearing all of the crap from people who think only of themselves, because these narrow-minded individuals may end up regretting their words, especially when they’re lying in a hospital bed hooked up to an oxygen supply.
