So this is what I've been doing a lot of recently. I've been writing for years, and I churned out super-hero and science fiction pieces for years, first by hand, then on any old type-writer I could find in a second hand shop, then onto a snazzy electronic typewriter in the mid-nineties. A lot of those stories no longer exist, thrown away when I became bored with him, only to be rebooted time and time again.
That was until, with the help of my big brother Paul, that the combined Anglo-Force/Valkyrie Chronicles universe came into being. After a while Paul stepped back after co-writing and plotting some of the earlier efforts, but he always pitched ideas and kept a keen interest as I kept churning out the stories.
The universe I created borrowed characters and scenarios from other media as I added them to my own. Marvel, DC, Star Trek, Dr. Who, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Lord of the Rings, Highlander, Blake's 7, and more. Characters, situations and time lines were changed so they could fit in with the centuries-spanning adventures of the an immortal wizard and a semi-immortal English war hero.
The story writing continued until around 1995-96 when I began my job at the garden centre. Although the ideas kept coming I just couldn't find the time or inclination to continue writing these stories, and not even the introduction of the world wide web, and the possibility of these stories getting an audience for the first time persuaded me to go back to these.
I toyed with the idea of a reboot or two, but in the end that other lifelong mistress of mine, professional wrestling, called out to me as The Two Sheds Review made it's debut online in June 2000. The rest, as they say, is history.
But in recent times I've delved back into the dusty old Lever Arch Files that currently take pride of place under my bed. I've posted a few old stories on my various sites over the years, but it's only been in the past few months as I've found myself with more time on my hands that I've looked at these stories once again.
Apart from the few stories I'd already posted hardly any of these stories have been read outside of my house. I wrote them for my own enjoyment. Now I'd like them to get more of an airing, and there's no better place than my trusty old blog.
So if you like super-heroes and science fiction stories then why not give some of these a read. All I ask of you is this: if you're one of those sci-fi fans who pick over every single detail then this stuff probably isn't for you, because you'd probably never forgive me for the fact that I pushed the Babylon 5 station over a hundred years into the future, or that Ro Laren never left Starfleet to join the Maquis, or that Darth Vader once stepped foot in 20th century England.
Go on, take a look at the Fiction section of my blog. You may realise that I'm a lot more than Britain's longest-running professional wrestling and mixed martial arts blogger!
