Hero’s 2007 Volume Three: The Final Battle - CPC Movies DVD Review

It’s no secret that the Ultimate Fighting Championship is the top mixed martial arts promotion in the world at the moment. But if you look slightly further a field, you’ll find top notch action in the far east.

The Hero’s 2007 Volume Three: The Final Battle two disc set comes from the same company that brings out the outstanding K-1 Kickboxing tournaments, and their MMA wing is just as exciting. This release features a four man tournament for the World Middleweight Championship, with three Brazilians, Andre Dida, J.Z. Calvan and Vitor “Shaolin” Ribeiro, as well as the legendary Japanese fighter Caol Uno. The three matches here are quite outstanding.

But the action doesn’t end there. There really isn’t a bad fight here. With stars like Holland’s Alistair Overeem and Melvin Manhoef, a relatively unknown Brazilian by the name of Bibiano Fernandes, and the legendary Kazushi Sakuraba leading a Japanese contingent that includes the returning Kid Yamamoto, the level of fighting talent here is outstanding. There’s even a Brit here, with our own Harvey Harra in a reserve fight.

Disc two is just as good, with two bonus fights, training session footage, and an interview with one of the legends of the game, Rickson Gracie, which is worth the price of admission alone.

Even though Pride is no more, the Japanese mixed martial arts scene is alive and well. This DVD is proof of that.
