The Rise of Supremus - Chapter Nine

The Anglo-Force sky-jet was flying high above the Atlantic Ocean, and even though they were flying at a great height they were still being hit by waves from the ocean.  Reid watched as his instruments were going crazy.
“The seismic disturbances are going way off the scale.” he said. “And they are being felt for miles around.”
“Where’s the epicentre?” asked White Knight.
“From exactly the same spot Supremus is.” said Reid. “And there are two undersea volcanoes in that location. They’ve been dormant for years, but now they’ve suddenly become active again!”
“That’s not all.” said Star Man. “The engines are seriously overheating. It I were a betting man I’d lay even money on them giving out any second…”
“The engine noise suddenly died down.
    “…now!”
The sky-jet glided for a few seconds. There was still power getting through to the scanners.
“How far are we away from the ship?” asked White Knight.
    “Ten miles.” said Reid.
“Supercop, Star Man, you know what to do.” said White Knight.
Star Man reached forward and popped the cockpit canopy. The sky-jet then began to fall faster and faster. Supercop grabbed Reid and Star Man grabbed White Knight as Red Sun flew off. A few seconds later the sky-jet crashed into the water.
    “Head south.” said Reid.

The glow that had enveloped Supremus and his machine was getting larger all the time. It now covered the entire cargo ship. Supremus continued to cry out loud as he got more and more powerful. Watt was beginning to regain his senses, and he slowly got to his feet. Supremus looked at Watt and laughed.
“You are a fool if you think you can defeat me now!” Supremus boomed. “I am all powerful, all seeing! I am omnipotent!”
Watt was still dazed from Supremus’ last attack. He knew he had to think quickly. Just as he was about to take to the sky a huge wave washed over the ship. Another wave soon followed, this one lifting the ship higher. Then the tremors got much stronger, and this made the waves much larger. The next wave crashed into the ship, knocking it, the machine, Supremus and Watt into the water. It was this wave that disconnected Supremus’ machine from the volcano. The waves died down. The sea seemed to return to normal. A few seconds after this Watt returned to the surface. He had been thrown clear through the water and ended up near the coast. He soon made his way to the beach. Watt had never felt power like that before, and he had found it an effort just to get back to the beach.
At that moment White Knight, Star Man, Red Sun, Supercop and Reid were flying over the beach.
“Look!” shouted Red Sun, flying down to the beach. “It’s Jim!”
They landed on the beach a few minutes later. Red Sun rushed over to Watt and helped him to his feet. He was still very groggy.
    “I’m okay.” he said.
    Watt looked around.
“Where’s Supremus?” he asked. “The last thing I remember is a tidal wave hitting the ship and knocking everything over. After that all the tremors stopped.”
Reid held his scanner to the air.
“I’m not picking up any energy readings.” he said. “Wait! Something’s happening out at sea.”
The six of them looked out to sea as the waves began to get larger and larger again.
“What the hell is that?” said Supercop.
Suddenly something shot out of the water. It looked like a man, but a man who was forty feet tall. The man in question was Supremus.
“Mortals of Earth!” he boomed. “Prepare to meet your doom!”
“We’ve got our work cut out in this one!” said Watt.
Without saying a word Supercop took off and flew towards Supremus. His flight did not last long as a now-huge Supremus hand sent Supercop flying back towards the beach. As he landed sand flew everywhere.
“That’s already happened to me today.” said Watt. “But it wasn’t as bad as that!”
“Fancy a little double-team action?” asked Star Man.
“You got it.” said Red Sun.
Both of them took off and flew towards Supremus’ head. They were able to avoid another lunging blow, and they got close to his head.
“On my mark!” shouted Star Man. “Now!”
Both Red Sun and Star Man unleashed what were probably their most powerful energy bursts at Supremus’ face. Red sun and star energy bathed Supremus. They were able to keep this up for a number of seconds.
“Cut power!” shouted Star Man. “Let’s see if we had any effect!”
They stopped their energy blasts. They were surprised to see that it had had absolutely no effect on Supremus. His huge face now had a broad, smug smile on it. His huge eyes started to glow, and two energy beams knocked Star Man and Red Sun out of the sky and crashing into the water. They soon made it back to the surface.
    White Knight turned to Watt.
“May I suggest a new plan of attack.” said White Knight. “Take me to the back of Supremus as fast as you can. Doctor, you attack from the front.”
Watt grabbed White Knight around his arms and took to the sky. He flew in behind Supremus as Red Sun and Star Man attacked the giant from the front.
“Put me down on his shoulder.” instructed White Knight.
Watt did as he was asked. Supremus did not notice this as he was still concerned with the frontal attack. As soon as he had been put down White Knight took out Excalibur, raised it above his head, and brought it down onto the side of Supremus’ head. This attack did not provoke any response from Supremus, so White Knight attacked again and again. No response was provoked, and no damage was made. As White Knight continued with this attack Red Sun and Star Man continued with their attack. They fired their energy blasts individually and then together. All this seemed to do was slightly damage Supremus’ attire. The huge mutate countered with energy blasts of his own. Star Man and Red Sun only just managed to avoid these attacks.
As these attacks took place Supercop was just about on his feet, still groggy from Supremus’ mighty blow. He watched as Reid tried to attack Supremus with his stretching power, but his power was no match for that of Supremus. All Supremus had to do was move his huge foot slightly to knock Reid out of the way. Reid was sent flying towards Supercop, who caught the doctor before any harm could befall him. Supercop then set him down onto the ground.
    “Thank you.” said Reid.
Supercop did not answer. Instead he took to the sky to launch one of his own attacks. This time he did not fly towards Supremus’ head. He had learned form his mistake. This time he flew towards his stomach, his midsection. The sound of the blow could be heard for miles around, but when the dust settled Supremus was still standing. It was then that Supremus turned his attention to Watt. Watt was using his super-speed power and was proving too fast for Supremus, who fired several energy blasts at Watt, each of which missed. Watt complimented his power with several lightning-quick blocks to various points of Supremus’ body, but again none of these seemed to have any effect. It seemed as if the battle head reached a stalemate. Although Supremus had indeed gained more power he didn’t have enough power to beat the combined forces of the Anglo-Force members who were fighting him. In turn those of Anglo-Force did not have enough power to defeat Supremus. Indeed, a stalemate had been reached.
Supremus knew what he had to do. He knew that his machine was nearby, floating somewhere in the water. He knew that he had to stun those who were attacking him so he could reactivate his machine and gain even more power so he could defeat his attackers. It was then that he set about his task. He ceased his attack and stood motionless.
    “What’s happening?” asked Star Man.
There wasn’t enough time for anyone to answer. Before anyone could speak a large glow covered the area around Supremus and moved for a number of miles. Supremus’ eyes then opened widely and he let out a huge cry. The glow turned into pure energy, and he stretched out his arms and sent that energy hurtling towards his attackers. This sent them flying back towards the beach. The glow died down a few seconds later. Supremus stood and saw his fallen attackers lying on the beach, either unconscious or very stunned. Supremus then looked to his right, and the water started to bubble. A few seconds later his machine then appeared. Supremus then walked over to it and checked it. It was still in working in order. He then went over to the control panel and switched it on again. The huge metal pipe then rose into the air and plunged back into the water towards one of the undersea volcanoes. As this happened Supremus reconnected himself to the clamp. The needles came out and entered his veins again. It was a few seconds later when the glow appeared again, and then the tremors started. The waves started to get larger and stronger again as once more Supremus started to drain power from the very core of the Earth, and with Anglo-Force down there appeared no way of stopping him.
