The Frankenstein Factor - Civil War Chapter Five

Frankenstein’s power draining  device was soon removed, and power levels all around the station were back to normal in under an hour. Soon afterwards Lieutenant Keffer took out a fighter and flew into the atmosphere of Epsilon 3. He was in constant contact with Sinclair in Ops.
“Have you found anything yet Warren?”
“I’ve flown around this rock three times already Commander. I can’t find a thing!”
“Maybe it went inside.” said Ivanova.
“No.” said Sinclair. “I saw it crash on the surface, it has to be there. We’ll have to send down more fighters.”
“You can send down fifty fighters, but I think you’ll get the same result! It’s just gone, Frankenstein, creature, and all!”
Sinclair knew that any further search would probably be like flogging a dead horse. He pressed a button on the communication panel.
    “Okay Warren, come on home.”

The next day the U.S.S. Sutherland arrived at the station to pick up Captain Sinclair and take him back to Earth. In his quarters Sinclair had just finished putting on his new red and black Starfleet uniform when the door buzzer sounded. It was Ivanova.
“The Sutherland has just docked Commander…I mean Captain.”
    Sinclair straightened his tunic.
    “Thank you Commander.”
Sinclair then picked up his bags and they left the room. As they walked towards the customs area Sinclair noticed how quiet everything was. It seemed as if most of the crew and diplomatic staff were there to say goodbye to him. Everyone was there, Garibaldi, Doctor Franklin, Talia Winters, Mollari, G’Kar, Delenn, Kosh, everyone. Looking at all of these people he considered friends brought a lump to his throat. As he approached the customs point the handed his bags to a junior officer who took them aboard the Sutherland. He turned to face Ivanova.
“Captain Sinclair, I relieve you of command.”
    “I stand relieved.”
He couldn’t help feel a little sad as he looked at everyone.
“Ladies and gentlemen, it’s been a pleasure serving with all of you. It’s an experience I will never forget.”
Then everyone saluted Sinclair in the traditional manner. Sinclair returned the salute, and as he did Ivanova noticed a tear in his eye. He then went through customs and was soon aboard the Sutherland. It was indeed the end of an era on Babylon 5, and the beginning of a new era in the life of Captain Jeffrey Sinclair, commanding officer of the U.S.S. Lohengrin-B.
