RE-POST: FCW Deliverance, October 2004 - Live Show Review

My first opportunity to see the FCW product, deep in the heart of my ancestral home, eight matches played out to a crowd of about 250.

MORALES (w/Desirable Danny) v JACK LONDON & PSYCHO
I really must pay more attention to the FCW web site, because I had no idea what was going on at first. Morales had apparently attacked Spud at last week's show, and was out to prove a point. Hence this squash match as he beat not one but two men. Well, I suppose it did it's job.

A-STAR ATHLETE v THE BOUNCER v MARC HOGAN
Some light-hearted comedy moments here, as during one of the altercations, the A-Star's ass was accidentally exposed, except he didn't realise it at the time. Much like the opening match, this didn't really capture my imagination as A-Star came out on top. Nothing to see here. Move on.

Table Match
THE PARTY BOYS v DEVIL'S ADVOCATE v THE BRITISH CONNECTION v SWIFT JUSTICE
To me, this match just seemed to be a mess, the action was all over the place, with high spot after high sport, bump after bump. At one point, those in the bout pulled the ringside barrier right up to the ring, so the brawling spilled out into the laps of those in the front row. This didn't exactly sit well with everyone in attendance. The contest was eventually won by the Party Boys.

"CLASSIC" COLT CABANA v CAMERON KNITE
After the mess was cleared from the ring, we finally got some great wrestling action. This was the first time I'd seen Knite in action, and the first time I'd seen Cabana in person. A highly impressive showing from both men, with the visiting American winning and praising his British counterpart for his efforts. A class act, with Cabana proving afterwards that he was a hell of a raffle caller as well!

"WILDCAT" ROBBIE BROOKSIDE v "TOMCAT" KEVIN O'NEIL
Always a pleasure to see Mr. Brookside in action, and once again he proved to be an expert at warming up a crowd. This was the most vocal they had been all night. A great showing from both men, with Robbie coming out on top.

SWEET SARAYA v SHELBY BEACH v PIPPA L'VINN
Sometimes three way dances can be difficult to watch, and sometimes they can be classics. Sadly, this was the former. Saraya was, as always, impressive, but while Pippa showed some flashes of brilliance, Shelby seemed lost. Thankfully, things didn't last long as Saraya won around the eleven minute mark, pinning both of her opponents at the same time.

"ROWDY" RICKY KNIGHT v SPUD
This looked to be a mismatch on paper, with Knight outweighing Spud by at least 160 pounds, but in the ring it proved to be a hell of a bout. I've heard a great deal about Spud, and seen him a couple of times on video, but it's only really when you see him live that you realise just how good the lad is. His high-flying ability wasn't enough to top the Rowdy Man from kicking the crap out of him though. Turns out that Knight was merely a hired gun for Morales. After Knight defeated Spud, Morales paid Knight off and inflicted more damage on Spud's already
injured arm.

FCW Title - Ladder Match
"SENSATION OF THE NATION" ROB HUNTER (c) V LAKEN XANDER
A ladder match to finish off the evening's entertainment, and a bout the fans were really getting into. Unfortunately, owing to the lateness of the hour, some of those with younger children had already begun to leave. Another enjoyable bout here with some interference from Hunter's manager Barbie, and some good use of the ladder, before Xander eventually secured the belt to become the new FCW Champion.

In conclusion - with the show finishing around the eleven o'clock mark, eight matches made this a long evening for some fans. Take out the first three matches, which were nothing to write home about anyway, and you'd be left with a damn good show.

Match of the night goes to the Knight/Spud match. The little guy really impressed me, and I hope to see more of him in the future.

My thanks go to everyone connected with FCW for making me welcome. You guys weren't expecting this review, but here goes anyway!
