If you ever needed evidence that Ring of Honor is alive and well, despite the constant internet rumours, then I think I may have found it for you.
Proving Ground 2009 Night One takes you back to their double shot of shows in Coral Springs, Florida this past February, and features some of the top stars the company has to offer, as well as a few visitors from Full Impact Pro.
There’s wrestling here for all purist tastes, beginning with Brad Attitude and Shawn Osbourne in the opener, through to Bison Smith’s squash match, the excellent tag match pitting Bryan Danielson and Jerry Lynn against The Age of the Fall, right through to the main event, a minor classic with Tyler Black and one half of The American Wolves, the always outstanding Davey Richards.
Sadly, this show is let down a little with the Necro Butcher/Austin Aries match. Aries, and former ROH World and Tag-Team Champion, is a great wrestler, but the Butcher is just plain awful, a supposed hardcore icon whose offence looks weaker than my sister’s cups of tea.
So apart from that downside, this is a great DVD that would make a great addition to any wrestling fan’s collection, even if you’ve never seen Ring of Honor before.
