Federation No More: Civil War Chapter Seventy-Six

For ages Pendragon had sat in his office, studying the layout of Cygnus Alpha Magus had given them. Suddenly, he received a call from Plato in the Operations Room, asking him to go there. He soon joined Plato at his science station.

"What is it, Lieutenant?", he asked.

"I'm picking up a strange energy reading from the surface of the Time.", Plato replied. "And an unidentified object is heading out into space."

"Could it be a Valhalla-class vessel?"

"No, Captain. I can not find any record of it on file." "Put it on screen."

The image soon appeared on the screen. A slight smile appeared on Pendragon's face when he saw what it was.

"It appears to be some sort of animal.", said Plato. "With a humanoid on it's back!"

"Now I know why he gave me command of the Scotsman! That's how he's going to keep his appointment! Mister Plato, what your sensors picked up was a dragon, Magus' dragon to be exact."

"You mean Granamyr. I always wondered where he kept it."

"Mister Plato, note it in the station log that Doctor Magus has gone on temporary leave. and as of this date, I am in command of the U.S.S. Flying Scotsman."

Pendragon then returned to his office, but before he returned to the plan, he walked over to his window, and gazed out to the stars.

"May Merlin go with you, Doctor!"

Never before had a game of Statagema gone to so high a level. Mordrid was proving more than a match for Dockachin. It seemed as if the Zakdorn yardmaster had bitten off more than he could chew, and it began to show in his face. As the game went on, he began to get angrier and angrier as Mordrid kept his cool. Then, it was over. After what seemed like hours, Mordrid finally defeated Dockachin. He was at a loss for words.

"I don't know what to say! No human has ever beaten a Zakdorn at Stratagema before! Not once!"

"Ah, but I am not human! I am Istarian!"

Dockachin's jaw dropped.

"So that's how you did it! You used magic!"

"I assure you, sir, that I did not! I used only my wits and intelligence! I beat you fair and square! Now, please honour your wager!"

Minutes later, Mordrid and Dockachin stepped onto the darkened bridge of the Valkyrie.

"Computer!", said Dockachin. "Lights!"

The bridge was then as it should be. Mordrid began to look around, at the science stations, engineering station, tactical, ops, helm.

"Every system is fully functional!", said Dockachin. "I haven't had time to strin down the components yet. To be honest, I was surprised when Starfleet Command ordered her de-commishoning. She may be a few years old, but she's still in good shape!"

"I know.", replied Mordrid. "She means a lot to many people."

"If you want I can assign a skeleton crew, to take her where you want her."

"That will not be needed, Mister Dockachin. I will input the co-ordinates into the computer, and then I will be on my way. I thank you for your help."

After checking every system, Dockachin then left the ship. Once he was gone, Mordrid seated himself in the captain's chair.

"Computer, set a course for the Time of Legends, ahead, warp factor six."

For the first time in a long while Sisko was able to enjoy a quiet meal in his quarters with his son, Jake. Or at least he thought he could. Moments later the door buzzer sounded, and Dax entered. She was not happy.

"Benjamin, did you know anything about this?"

"About what?"

"I've been transferred! I'm the new science officer of the Lexington!"

"You've got to be kidding! Are you sure?"

"The orders came from Starfleet Command!"

The door buzzer then sounded again, and Bashir entered. He, also, was not happy.

"Commander, it's about the Jem'Hadar! One of them just assualted Chief O'Brien! He's in the infirmary now! He's lucky he wasn't badly hurt!"

Sisko had heard enough. Ever since he had arrived back on D.5.9 he had heard story after story about the Dominion and the Jem'Hadar, and he didn't like any of them. After Dax and Bashir left his quarters, he vowed to himself to find out what was going on.

The young Ocampa girl had led Kim and Torres to the shaft, and then left them alone. Slowly, they began to climb the steps, but there were so many of them, Kim didn't know if he could make it all the way to the top. When they were twenty feet up, he called out to Torres.

"Hey! Can we rest a while!"

Torres did not want to rest. She wanted to carry on, but she could see that Kim was tired, and that he needed a break, so she decided it was best to rest a while.

"You know, I could really use some of that Klingon blood of yours!", said Kim.

"Perhaps it might keep me going!"

"Believe me, you don't want it! It's more trouble that it's worth! That's what Sneezy said anyway!"

"Sneezy! I don't believe it! You were at the Academy! Did you finish?"

"No. I dropped out at the end of the second year. We decided it would be benefical to both of us!"

"We?"

"The Academy board and myself. It seemed like I just couldn't cut it there! I got into one scrape after another!"

"Well, if you got into the academy, there must be something good about you!"

Torres then got to her feet, and took in a deep breath.

"Come on. We'd better keep on moving if we ever want to get out of here!"
