RE-POST: WAW Another Night in Yarmouth - DVD Review

Once again I’m off to my old stomping ground, the World Association of Wrestling, looking back at their summer season at the Atlantis Arena in Great Yarmouth, a season I missed the majority of due to glandular fever, with their “Another Night in Yarmouth” DVD release, courtesy of Pinfall Productions. As always, our hosts for the evening are the ever improving John Johnson and Dan Ambrose.

We start off with two old adversaries as Charlie Rage faces Darren Burridge. Da Pukka One again proves to be a great entertainer, showing some great moves, but ultimately falling short to Rage’s superior power, finishing the match off with a jackhammer suplex.

Three-way action next in the Atlantis Cup, with Andy Shoes, Fan Boy and J.C. Thunder. A slightly disappointing contest here. The exchanges between Fan Boy and Shoes really left a lot to be desired, with things only really getting better when Thunder came into the match. After Shoes eliminated Thunder with a shining wizard, Fan Boy got the win after pinning Shoes with a schoolboy roll-up.

On to mixed tag action, as Paul Tyrell and Jetta go up against Steve Quintain and Sweet Saraya. Tons of drama, and a few injuries in this one. Firstly, Jetta sustains a broken arm during a Saraya face-buster, and then Quintain sustains a knee injury when Tyrell throws him to the outside, leaving the match a one-on-one affair between Saraya and Tyrell. Despite all of her skill, Saraya couldn’t get the win, eventually falling to a torture rack slam after a gutsy effort.

Then it’s time for more singles action, with the Kraft taking on Hade Vansen. Originally, Kraft was scheduled to face Alex Shane for the British title, but the Showstealer pulled out due to illness. The lack of sick note Shane probably made this a better contest as Kraft and Vansen put on a hell of a bout, with the two of them perfectly suited to each other. Eventually Kraft came out on top, taking Vansen out with the Essex Bomb.

Then it’s on to the street fight, the rubber match between Bash and Majik. As with their previous match, it’s more of a fight than a wrestling bout, but a fight that takes in the entire arena as they brawl all over the place, and knock seven sorts of you know what out of each other. Once again the bat comes into play, as Majik grabbed the offending item from Bash, and ending up accidentally clobbering himself as Bash ducked out of the way and the bat came flying back off the ropes. Seconds later Bash had the winning pinfall.

On to the main event, as the U.K. Pitbulls, along with their manager, Tommy Lee, take on Jonny Storm and visiting American star Colt Cabana in a best of three falls match. A very entertaining bout here. The Pitbulls got the first fall after taking Storm out with a quick pitbull power bomb. Storm was able to equalize with a Cabana-assisted body block from the top rope to get the fall. Despite a stellar effort by Storm and Cabana, the Pitbulls got the third and deciding fall, pinning Cabana after the leg drop/big splash combo.

Extras come in the form of the usual commentary options, and the builder’s cage match between Ricky Knight and the Zebra Kid that took place at the final Atlantis Arena show.

In conclusion - take out the triple threat and you’ve got a good show from WAW here, once again showing that the Atlantis Arena shows are hot properties in Yarmouth during the summer season. Production wise Pinfall have again done a good job here. I’m looking forward to reviewing this DVD’s companion volume, Yarmouth Uncaged, in a few weeks.
