It’s strange occurrence time again, a DVD review of a pay-per-view I’ve already reviewed as we take a look at TNA’s most recent release, the two disc Bound For Glory 2010.
Disc one began with the first title match of the show as Generation Me challenged the Motor City Machine Guns for the Tag Team titles.
Lets break out all the old lines again…..great way to start the show…..two teams well suited to each other, etc, etc. Well, if you don’t know how highly I rate these teams you haven’t been reading my reviews, have you?
The champions retained the titles here, with Alex Shelley getting the pin after the Guns took out one of the Bucks with their neck breaker/cross body block finisher.
The second title match of the show saw Mickie James acting as the special referee as Tara, Madison Rayne and Velvet Skye challenged Angelina Love for the Knockouts title.
It’s the usual entertaining fare from the girls with a well played out storyline, with Tara brought in to act as Rayne’s bodyguard. However, she ended up winning the match and the title after pinning Skye while Rayne was brawling with Love at ringside.
Miss Rayne was none too happy about her bodyguard’s antics and ended up getting slugged by the referee.
More tag team action followed as Ink Inc went up against the ever annoying Orlando Jordan and Eric Young.
This has to be one of the most annoying matches I’ve ever seen, and that’s all because of Eric Young.
When he wasn’t waving the TNA rule book around he couldn’t decide what he was meant to be doing. One minute he was the referee, the next he was a member of Ink Inc, then he was Jordan’s partner.
Thankfully this one came to an end when Shannon Moore and Jesse Neal took Jordan out with their Samoan drop/neck breaker combo.
The third title match saw Doug Williams challenging Jay Lethal for the X Division title.
Thankfully normal service resumed with this encounter, but then again Doug Williams was involved.
It was a great back and forth encounter between two wrestlers well suited to each other, despite the distinct difference in styles.
Lethal emerged victorious, getting the pin after countering Williams’ top rope hurricanrana attempt, only to get attacked by the annoying Robbie E as he celebrated with the fans.
The brawl of the month saw Abyss taking on Rob Van Dam in a Monsters Ball match.
It’s the usual stuff here, and for some reason I found it to be quite entertaining, and that’s something I don’t recall happening first time around.
There’s the usual stuff with both men going through tables and getting hit with barb wire before RVD got the pin after clobbering Abyss with Janice, sealing the deal with the five star frog splash.
The handicap match pitting Jeff Jarrett and Samoa Joe against Kevin Nash, Sting and D’Angelo Dinero followed.
This was the one with the Mega-Powers ending. Joe carried the load for his team, but when he went to tag Jarrett old Double J jumped off the ring apron and headed for the hills, and it wasn’t long before Nash took Joe out with a power bomb to get the win.
After Team 3D’s big announcement it was on to the Lethal Lockdown match as Fortune, A.J. Styles, Frankie Kazarian, Matt Morgan and Beer Money, faced EV2, Tommy Dreamer, Rhino, Stevie Richards, Sabu and Raven.
Beginning with Kazarian and Richards the match progressed with Fortune using their one man advantage to good effect. Morgan and Rhino were the last two to enter the fray before the weapons came into play.
From there we had tons of weapons shots, with Kazarian and Richards doing the obligatory spot on top of the cage, with Brian Kendrick making a cameo appearance up there, back dropping Kazarian through a table.
In the end it came down to Dreamer and Styles, with the innovator of violence taking Styles down with a Dreamer driver from the top rope onto a chair. Well, it was what it was, but did 2010 really need two Lethal Lockdown matches?
The main event saw Jeff Hardy, Kurt Angle and Mr. Anderson going at it for the vacant TNA World title.
This was another match that was a lot better than I remember it. Three very good performances throughout here, with all three going all out to win the match.
We also found out who “They” were as first Eric Bischoff and then a barely moving Hulk Hogan entered the fray while the referee was getting forty winks. They cemented their heel turns as Hardy clobbered Angle and Anderson with Hogan’s crutches before taking out Anderson with a twist of fate to win the vacant title, with Jeff Jarrett and Abyss joining in with the celebrations.
Disc two is where you’ll find the extras, interviews, music videos, the usual stuff.
In conclusion - for some reason this show seemed to be a lot better than I remember it.
Apart from the downright annoying Eric Young match everything else was quite enjoyable, especially the main event.
So in all Bound For Glory 2010 gets the thumbs up, a worthy DVD for the TNA fans.
