The Homegrown Collection - DVD Review

The Jackass generation has a lot to answer for.
Michael Moody, the man behind the acclaimed 101 Reasons Not To Be A Pro Wrestler, is back, and this time he’s brought a few friends crazy friends along with him with his latest DVD release,The Homegrown Collection.

With help from maniacal youngsters from North America and beyond, Moody has put together amontage of clips that are both disturbing and compelling to watch at the same time. You want toturn away from the screen as the events unfold, but you can’t because you want to see if theseindividuals are as sick and twisted as they seem.

There’s all manner of crazy stunts here, performed by people who obviously get some sort of adrenaline rush from this sort of thing. From guys falling off their skateboards, to a fellow from Canada drilling a screw into his arm, guys setting themselves on fire, hitting each other with light bulbs, to backyard wrestling scenes (yes, that’s why this review is here), where reckless youths get dropped on their heads just for the sheer hell of it.

Then there’s the sick guys, eating microwaved dog turds and drinking puke to smoking a joint made from dog’s hair. I think you can guess the effect this had on the users.

This collection is nothing more than car crash television, literally, and while the individuals featured here are nothing more than mindless morons, there is the obligatory “don’t try this at home” warning at the beginning of the film. However, if everyone heeded this kind of warning there wouldn’t be a market for releases such as this.

In conclusion - sorry, but this isn’t really my sort of thing. While the controlled violence of a Tarantino film appeals to me a great deal, things like this just don’t. But if this sort of thing appeals to you, then get hold of a copy of The Homegrown Collection and knock yourself out.

Hang on a minute - isn’t that what some of these guys on this DVD tried to do?
